Saving a PDF from the print dialog

Help · PDF · Updated October 16, 2026

Short answer: Some tools open your browser’s print dialog instead of downloading. Choose Save as PDF as the destination. If nothing opens, allow pop-ups for this site.

Which tools work this way

The HTML to PDF Printer, Text to PDF Generator, CSV Data to PDF Converter, Markdown to PDF Converter, PDF Header & Footer Wrapper and Word to PDF Converter tools lay your content out as a page, open it in a new tab, and bring up your browser’s print dialog. The PDF is made by the browser when you choose to save as PDF there. That is deliberate: a browser makes clean PDFs with real, selectable text and embedded fonts.

Saving the PDF

  • Chrome and Edge: set Destination to Save as PDF, then press Save.
  • Firefox: choose Save to PDF as the printer.
  • Safari on a Mac: open the PDF menu at the bottom of the print dialog and choose Save as PDF.
  • Windows, any browser: Microsoft Print to PDF works as a printer too.
  • iPhone and iPad: in the print options, use the Share button at the top and choose Save to Files.

“Your browser blocked the print window”

The tool needs to open a new tab, and your browser treated it as a pop-up. Allow pop-ups for this site — in Chrome and Edge, a blocked pop-up icon appears at the right of the address bar — then press the tool’s button again.

Making it look right

  • Date and address printed on every page: those are the browser’s own headers and footers. Untick Headers and footers (in Chrome, under More settings).
  • Colours or backgrounds missing: tick Background graphics.
  • Wrong page size or margins: set Paper size and Margins in the same dialog.
